Wine Country

Day two of our road trip was spent in Marlborough Sounds, the South Island’s renowned wine country. We did a number of tastings at area vineyards including Cloudy Bay, Winter Haven, Framingham, and Cellier le Brun. I learned a lot about wine that day and I am now a connoisseur of sorts. My favorite winery was Cloudy Bay and its 2003 Chardonnay was exquisite. The wine was sophisticated but lacking in pretension. It was smooth in texture and lacked the tartness that I found unpleasant in many of the other chardonnays (see, told you I was a connoisseur :-D).
